EDIT 705 – Instructional Design

Description:
Helps students analyze, apply, and evaluate principles of instructional design to develop education and training materials spanning a wide range of knowledge domains and instructional technologies. Focuses on variety of instructional design models, with emphasis on recent contributions from cognitive science and related fields.
Reflections:
This course introduced me to the field of instructional design and it was my first online learning experience. It was a good introduction for the principles of instructional design and the different models that it employs with a focus on the ADDIE model. The course involved problem-based learning as well as project-based learning. This created an authentic experience for me and engaged me in hands on activity which involved me int he field of instructional design. Every week we were supposed to work on case studies and analyze them based on our readings for that week. By applying the readings to the problems suggested by the case studies and by proposing solutions, I felt like a real instructional designer. Moreover, the final project of this course walked us through the instructional design process where we had to collect data about a learning environment, analyze it, and propose an intervention (such as training) for the problem. My team designed a cross cultural training for non-US scholars teaching in US multicultural classrooms. We collected both quantitative and qualitative data to conduct needs analysis, learner analysis, task analysis, and contextual analysis, and as a result we designed our prototype. It was a great learning experience for me in terms of data collection and analysis and how it applies to the field of instructional design. Below are copies of my team’s design document and Design Brief.
