EDRS 811 – Quantitative Methods in Educational Research

Description:

Emphasizes advanced methods of conducting research using quantitative methods of data collection, and analysis appropriate for research in education. Includes design of experimental and quasiexperimental research studies, and methods of analysis appropriate to these studies, including analyzing variance and multiple linear regression.

Reflection:

This course was a good practice to the objectivist view of conducting research. The hands-on class and individual activities helped me grasp the material easier and provided me with a real application to educational problems. The constructive process of this course helped me write a final mini study in which I applied the different statistical tests and regression analyses that I learned about in this course based on a real set of data. The mini study gave me thee opportunity to apply my knowledge of SPSS to analyze data and to write a literature review section, methodology, results and a discussion section.

Most importantly, I walked away from this course with a fair statistics knowledge that I could use with  qualitative methods to conduct research. This course emphasized my thoughts from EDUC 800 that with quantitative methods alone, some data cannot be revealed. In my dissertation, I will follow a mixed methods of quantitative and qualitative approach to collect and analyze data if needed.
