Reflection:
This online course introduced me to the principles of online learning and teaching in action. The tools and principles we learned about in this course were observed through the online method of delivery of this course. It was another great experience from which IÂ confirmed that learning in an online environment can be very efficient. Participation in discussions, group work, individual presentations, instructor’s presence, the use of media, and metacommunication all played a great role in making this online course a successful learning environment.
My interest in doing research on online learning was developed in EDIT 526 and 705 and was even taken a step further in this course which portrayed the best practices in online learning, selection of appropriate tools and Open Source Software. The learning outcomes of this course were achieved in several discussions that revolved around the readings for this course in addition to a technology deep-dive assignment and a final group project which involved designing an online learning environment. In the technology deep-dive assignment, I explored Elluminate, a web-conferencing tool whereas my team and I created an online course as our final project which addressed International students’ culture shock when moving to the United States.
