EDUC 805 – Research and Scholarship in Education

Description: Provides an intellectual framework for research and scholarship in education, including consideration of specific scholarship of CEHD faculty as representative of the range of educational scholarship that make up the educational research community.

Reflection: The course exposed us to the meaning of Communities of Practice in the field of education. We learned that CoPs participate in a collective learning process where they share their expertise. They share three characteristics: domain, practice, and community. In CoPs, the novices move from the periphery to the center of the learning. As novices in the field of research in education, this course exposed us to a significant range of faculty research and scholarship, and it introduced us to CoPs in the field of education. One of the requirements of this course was a group paper in which we discussed the nature of CoPs and their potential for improvement of professional practices and professional development of its members. Our group consisted of Doctoral students in the Learning Technologies Design Research specialization. Although most of us were considered as novices, we shared our knowledge in the field of Instructional Technology and learned alot from each other. As a results, our final paper came as a collage of each of our area of expertise. In addition to this Group paper, we had to reflect on each of the
classes for the first half of the semester, and we had to write a reflection on the course.
